Cantre’r Gwaelod

Cantre’r Gwaelod, the Welsh sunken Kingdom. Also known as The Lowland Hundred, Cantre’r Gwaelod appears in The Black Book of Carmathen.

This was shot on Tywyn beach. At low tide during the winter months, or after particularly bad storms, the remains of a petrified forest appear when the sand is low. It’s usually covered with sand most of the year around. These peat diggings are among the petrified roots and fallen trees.
